Exposing the criminal element for 3 years

Roundup, Part Deux

We promised you (and the member of the BCSO command staff who likes to rant in our comment section) another roundup of our posts relating to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department. The last roundup, published in June contained links to 16 stories about the goings on in that department, beginning with the blowjob and narcotics incident in September of 2013. Here we are, fourteen months later, and not one media local outlet has bothered to report that incident (or many, many others) or delve into why the SLED investigation into the supplier of those drugs and blowjobs to inmates at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center has not been charged. We thought that particular incident would have had enough sex, drugs and intrigue to earn the attention of the the media, particularly when you consider a member of the command staff was run out of the department on a rail because of it.

Here is a re-hash of the first roundup post in descending order from May 2014 to September 2013.

Danger Continues - More personnel issues at Hill-Finklea.

Languishing in Lockdown - First news of a severe and dangerous personnel shortage at Hill-Finklea. This situation is ongoing.

Another Injury at BCSO - Another officer severely injured by an inmate at Hill-Finklea due to personnel shortages. This detention officer would later commit suicide due to his treatment at the hands of the administration of BCSO.

It’s a Parking Lot - Discussion of the vehicle situation at BCSO.

Who Gets the Blame? - Someone in Berkeley County left a dead man’s leg in a citizen’s front yard.

BCSO Fireworks - Explosion at Hill-Finklea.

More on BCSO - Additional details regarding the arrest of a BCSO employee for selling firearms to convicted felons.

The BCSO Saga Continues - Initial report of a BCSO employee arrested by federal agents while on-duty.

BCSO - Time For a Change - Two detention officers injured as a result of personnel shortages at Hill-Finklea.

News Source? - Summing up the failure of local journalists to actually practice journalism when it comes to BCSO.

Looks Like We Were Right - Oh, look! The charges against the detention officer for assaulting an inmate have conveniently disappeared and he was re-hired. See below where we pointed out those charges were being used to cover up the drugs and blowjob incident.  Strangely enough, the same SLED agent who filed charges on that detention officer has failed to take any action with regard to the drugs and blowjob incident, or a subsequent incident involving a handcuff key and a knife destined for the inmate boyfriend of another detention officer.

The Silence is Deafening - Once again pointing out the media complicity in concealing what happens at BCSO.

Oopsie in Berkeley County - The mistaken release of inmate Neely Blanchard from the Hill-Finklea Detention Center and the attempt to hide the release. We broke the story. Blanchard fled out of state.

Things That Make You Go “Hmmm” - Pointed out the media complicity in covering up the drugs and blowjob incident at the expense of an innocent detention officer.

No Rush to Report - Preliminary mention of how a detention officer was charged with assaulting an inmate in order to distract attention from the drugs and blowjob incident.

The Stuff We Hate to Write - Initial report of the drugs and blowjob incident.

Here are the links to more recent stories we have done, in ascending order from May 2014 to December 2014.

What a Mess - Just making a brief point.

Make it Stop - Vehicular irregularities.

Leadership? Where? - An employee accused of theft, never allowed to testify in general sessions court again. Suspended, but retained in the sensitive narcotics position he had been in at the time of the thefts. This employee was fired after the election when the Sheriff thought he might be a source of information about the corruption in the department. The theft incident occurred several years ago, but the Sheriff claimed he had “just found out about it”.

Four More Years - Cheating employees out of overtime pay, grand jury investigations, federal investigations, mismanagement, etc.

Supervisory Neglect - Pointing out how personnel who can no longer testify in court or adequately execute their assigned law enforcement duties are protected and retained by the Sheriff.

Hill-Finklea - Inmate using social media from the jail and the release of the inmate who injured the two female detention officers in one of the stories above.

Hill-Finklea Inmate - Jail inmate with a cell phone.

Jail or Hilton - Input from a citizen about the conditions at Hill-Finklea Detention Center.

JaMichael Howard - Another Hill-Finklea inmate with contraband.

A Breakthrough - High security inmates dig hole in wall. So much for video surveillance when you don’t have enough personnel to actually watch the inmates.

Eighty Percent - An 80% turnover rate in personnel at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center and the suicide of one officer who was injured on duty and mistreated by the Department.

Breakout Team - The hole digging inmates identified.

Baby Factory and Other Issues - A mentally deficient female inmate allegedly impregnated and homosexual jail rape. More costs to the taxpayer resulting from personnel shortage.

Suspended - Two BCSO deputies had suspended drivers licenses. One was fired. The other, a ranking member, was not.

Thinning the Herd - The Sheriff fires one deputy for a suspended license and another for an offense he was suspended for three years before. The Sheriff claimed he “just found out about it”.

A Week - It only took a week to charge a deputy with driving under suspension.

BCSO Intimidation - In a desperate effort to stem the flow of bad news out of BCSO, one of their command staff members threatens a citizen.

Still No Feds? - Discrepancies with narcotics “buy” money and a deputy fired. Also, a lieutenant lets a prisoner escape from Trident Hospital because he fell asleep. We won’t even tell you what that same lieutenant has said to others about his testimony before a grand jury investigating another corrupt member of the command staff at BCSO.

Another Loss - A road deputy allowed an inmate to escape from Trident Hospital.

Agendas - Pointing out how the Propaganda & Criminals agenda includes covering for BCSO.

Dig It Deeper - The resident Ranter-In-Chief of the BCSO command staff has another go at us.

Hill-Finklea Hijinks - Another detention officer under investigating for “physical contact” with her inmate boyfriend and trying to pass him a handcuff key and buck knife. One of those infamous “SLED investigations” was reportedly in progress for over a month at the time we reported on the story. Still no results, still no charges.

Fernando Wright - Another Hill-Finklea inmate with a contraband cell phone.

Hill-Finklea Deaths - Addressing the issue of dead inmates and lawsuits.

More Details - Additional details on an overdose and a death at Hill-Finklea.

Headlines? - First reports of an alleged DUI arrest of a deputy who wrecked his county vehicle and the attempts by BCSO and SCHP to avoid questions from the press.

Berkeley Update - New details.

Back At It - The resident BCSO command staff ranter goes off once again and introduces additional questionable behavior into the alleged DUI that allegedly was not a DUI.

Wow! Hope we didn’t miss any!

Another issue regarding that alleged DUI is the fact that BCEMS Medic 10 was on-scene, but apparently failed to notice any issues with the deputy’s blood sugar at that time. That puts a whole new spin on things. If you folks think you can depend on BCSO to tell you the truth about anything you need only look at the issues presented in the stories above.

In other news out of Berkeley County it appears a member of BCEMS, who also operates on a team with BCSO, has been accused of sexually assaulting a co-worker. You know we hear it all the time, but an investigation is underway. Sources tell us this individual was previously dismissed for similar behavior, but had been re-hired by a director who was previously accused of wrong-doing.

This wouldn’t be the first time a member of BCEMS has sexually assaulted a female co-worker. A number of years ago another BCEMS worker, who was also a BCSO reserve deputy, used his handcuffs to restrain and sexually assault a female co-worker. That assault was covered up by a former senior member of the BCSO command staff. Sounds to us like someone conspired to abrogate the civil rights of the victim in that case. Where are the feds on that one?

In fact, where are the feds, period, when it comes to Berkeley County?

We have received a number of messages from law enforcement officers who expressed displeasure with our recent series regarding problems in various law enforcement agencies. They feel like they are under attack. Nothing could be further from the truth. As you can see, we support the men and women on the front lines who are busting their asses every day to keep crime and thugs in check. Unfortunately, there are some issues with thugs who have infiltrated various departments, particularly BCSO. They can be found in the administrations and their questionable and corrupt works are public knowledge among officers. Even among officers from other departments. Don’t believe it? Even the command staff ranter from BCSO likes to point out issues with NCPD and the fact they covered for and promoted an officer accused of serious wrong-doing. You can’t keep much secret from a group of people who live to investigate stuff. You folks gossip just like everyone else does. The only way to clear those folks out is to expose the corruption and hope someone decides to take some action.
