The Violence Heats Up

Warm weather is here and the violence is heating up after a brief slowdown last week.

Let’s start with William Thaddeus Graham who beat and stomped a woman so badly she suffered broken facial bones and can’t speak. He did this while other folks in the neighborhood watched. Well, at least they gave police a description of Graham. He was captured by police and charged with 1st Degree Assault & Battery. Judge Baldwin set his bond at $75,000 and Graham bonded out of jail rather quickly. He was admonished by the judge to stay away from the victim he was threatening to kill while he stomped her face. That should be effective.

Graham is also on probation and his probation record lists him as a sex offender. Curiously, the SLED database does not have him listed as a sex offender, but this isn’t the first time we have found errors there.

Graham can’t be such a bad guy, right? Let’s take a look at his history in Charleston county.

1998 Charges:

?? - Entered as “Possession Marijuana/Distribution 1st”. Doesn’t really matter since the charge was dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Distribution of Drugs Near a School - Dismissed.

1999 Charges:

Distribution of Crack Cocaine - Reduced to PWID Cocaine by the 9th Circuit Solicitor. Sentenced by Judge Gerald Smoak to 3 years, suspended in favor of 3 years probation.

Distribution of Crack Near a School - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

2005 Charges:

Possession of a Stolen Pistol - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor with the notation “facts insufficient to prove possession”.

2008 Charges:

PWID Crack Cocaine - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

PWID Crack Near a School - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

PWID Crack Near a School - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

PWID Crack - Plead guilty. Sentenced by Judge Roger Young to 5 years.

2010 Charges:

1st Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct - Reduced to 1st Degree Assault & Battery by the 9th Circuit Solicitor. Sentenced by Judge Thomas “Felon’s Friend” Hughston to 2 years time served even though the jail record shows Graham only spent three months in jail before making bond on the charge. You know how that crazy 9th Circuit math is, though. Very similar to that common core bullshit.

So, what do you think folks? Is William Thaddeus Graham such a bad guy? Apparently your solicitor and judges don’t think so.

Next up is a Saturday morning murder in downtown Charleston. 27 year old George Bennett, aka “Big Feez” was gunned down. Another male who was a holding a child was also shot.  Bennett was on probation when he was murdered. He was also banned from being at the housing project where he was shot.

We frequently point out the fact that folks who don’t engage in criminal activity usually don’t get lead injections in the Lowcountry, so let’s see what kind of history Bennett had.

2004 Charges:

PWID Crack Cocaine - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

PWID Crack Near a School - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

Armed Robbery - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor with the notation, “in the interest of justice”. That is simply the solicitor’s way of saying Bennett told on some other folks so his charges were dismissed.

2007 Charges:

PWID Crack Cocaine - Dismissed at the preliminary hearing because the police office did not show up.

PWID Crack Near a School - Same as above.

Possession of a Firearm During a Violent Crime - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

Armed Robbery - Reduced to Strong Arm Robbery by the 9th Circuit Solicitor. Sentenced by Judge Thomas “Felon’s Friend” Hughston to 10 years, suspended on 507 days time served and 3 years probation.

Possession of Cocaine - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

Possession of Cocaine - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

2008 Charges:

Possession of Cocaine - Plead guilty. Sentenced by the Felon’s Friend to 507 days time served.

Failure to Stop for Blue Light - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

2009 Charges:

Strong Arm Robbery - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

2010 Charges:

Distribution of Marijuana - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

PWID Cocaine 2nd Offense - Plead guilty. Sentenced by Judge Roger Young to 5 years.

PWID Cocaine 2nd Offense - Plead guilty. Sentenced by Judge Roger Young to 5 years.

PWID Cocaine Near a School - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

Well, it looks like George Bennett was also thought by the 9th Circuit Solicitor to be a great guy based on all of those charges dismissed or plead down.

The violence continues in Walterboro. Tywan Vashan Greene, 36, was shot and killed at the Sportz Center Lounge in Walterboro. Green has a rather short criminal history. His last general sessions offense was in 2013 when he was charged with Failure to Stop for Blue Lights. Greene plead guilty and was sentenced to 1 year, suspended in favor of 1 year of probation.

Green also has priors for CDVHAN and possession of crack cocaine.

We are willing to bet neither Bennett nor Greene were ventilated by evil white police officers. Maybe some of those protestors in town from out of state can head out to the Sportz Center Lounge, barge in and start chanting. See how that goes.

On a final note the 9th Circuit Solicitor gun tally is now at:

90 cases     40 dismissed     20 guilty pleas     30 pending
