According to reports and court records in Beaufort County, Jonas Armstrong is suing just about every governmental agency in Beaufort County and Port Royal. Port Royal firefighters were on a call in February when Kalvin Hunt fled from the Navy hospital there and stole the firetruck. Armstrong was involved in a collision with the firetruck, which Hunt was driving recklessly.
We can see the logic in suing the suspect who stole the fire truck. We can even see the civil attorney logic in suing everyone else even remotely associated with the fire truck. We don’t agree with that warped logic, but we are dealing with a civil attorney, after all. The Marine suspect doesn’t have very deep pockets. The county and the town do. Well, the people who pay taxes to those entities do.
The question we have is – which Jonas Armstrong is suing all of those governmental entities? There are two in Beaufort County. Is our plaintiff the Jonas Armstrong who has been living off of the taxpayer’s dime for years as evidenced by at least four eviction proceedings initiated by the Beaufort Housing Authority?
Or is our plaintiff the Jonas N. Armstrong who has had a lot of run-ins with local police for traffic violations, driving under suspension and criminal domestic violence?
Some will contend that it doesn’t matter which Armstrong is the plaintiff. We contend it does.
How do the taxpayers in Beaufort County feel about it?
